Bring in what you no longer wear for a fair, in-person valuation.
Learn moreOne ring, chosen once. Make it a confident choice.
The setting, the shape, the metal, and the diamond itself all change how a ring looks on the hand and what it costs. Narrow down the style here, see natural and lab-grown explained plainly, then compare your shortlist in person with one of our advisors.
Start where you are
Most people start in one of four places. Each leads to the right part of the collection, and an advisor can pick up from any of them.
Start with a setting
Choose a setting, then pair it with a natural or lab-grown diamond. Prefer it finished? Our complete rings are ready to wear.
Start with a Setting
Natural diamonds
Search GIA-graded natural diamonds by shape, size, and grade, then choose the setting to suit the stone.
Start with a Natural Diamond
Lab-grown diamonds
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds at a lower price, so the same budget reaches a larger or finer stone.

There’s no single best engagement ring, only the best one for the person who’ll wear it. Your answers suggest a starting point, and what to compare at your appointment.
Where we’d start
Nothing competes with the center diamond, and slim prongs let light in from every side. It’s the most timeless choice, and it pairs with almost any wedding band.
Worth knowing
Setting height changes the look more than you might expect. A cathedral setting lifts the diamond for drama; a lower basket sits closer to the hand.
Where we’d start
A thin rim of metal wraps the diamond’s edge, protecting it from knocks and keeping the ring from catching on gloves, knits, or hair.
Worth knowing
A bezel shows a little less of the diamond’s outline. Seeing bezel and prong settings side by side makes the tradeoff easy to judge.
Where we’d start
A ring of small diamonds around the center adds brilliance and makes the center look larger for its carat weight.
Worth knowing
A halo often needs a contoured wedding band to sit flush, and the small accent diamonds are worth checking at each cleaning.
Where we’d start
Sparkle that shows from the side and along the band, with a cleaner top view and a lower profile than a full halo.
Worth knowing
Pavé diamonds are small and held by tiny beads of metal. Regular cleaning and inspection, done on site, keeps them secure.
Where we’d start
Fine beaded edges, engraving, and open metalwork bring the character of an heirloom. We also carry true antique rings with older diamond cuts.
Worth knowing
Detailed metalwork collects lotion and dust. A professional cleaning brings the detail back.
Where we’d start
Milgrain and engraving along the band give vintage character, while a bezel or framed center keeps the diamond protected for everyday wear.
Worth knowing
Fine engraving softens over decades of wear, and our master jewelers can refresh it.
Where we’d start
Side stones, such as rounds, pears, half-moons, or baguettes, frame the center and give the ring width and presence.
Worth knowing
Side stones change the ring’s proportions, so the right center size can differ from what you planned. It’s easiest to judge on the hand.
Where we’d start
An emerald, radiant, or less common cut, wrapped in smooth metal, makes a modern statement that stands up to daily life.
Worth knowing
Elongated and step-cut shapes show color and inclusions differently than rounds, so compare a few stones before choosing.
On the diamond
Lab-grown diamonds usually cost far less than natural diamonds of the same size and grade, so your budget reaches a larger or finer stone. Tell us when you book and we’ll arrange lab-grown options to compare.
On the diamond
We’ll show you GIA-graded natural diamonds chosen stone by stone, and where your budget does the most work: usually cut first, then the color and size that look best in your setting.
On the diamond
Natural and lab-grown diamonds look the same to the eye. The differences are origin, price, and long-term value, and we’ll explain all three plainly. If you’d like to see lab-grown options, tell us when you book.
A starting point, not a rule. Your advisor will show you alternatives side by side.
Setting styles, explained
The setting decides how much of the diamond you see, how protected it is, and how a wedding band will sit beside it. These are the five styles we’re asked about most.
A single diamond on a plain band. Nothing competes with the center stone, and it pairs with almost any wedding band.

Natural or lab-grown, honestly explained
We offer both, and we’ll explain the tradeoffs honestly. Our team does not work on commission, so there’s never any pressure. The right choice depends on what matters to you: rarity, size, budget, or long-term value.
Our studio shows natural diamonds. If you’d like to see lab-grown diamonds in person, tell us when you book.
| Natural diamond | Lab-grown diamond | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Formed deep in the earth over billions of years, then mined. | Grown in a laboratory in a matter of weeks. |
| Look and durability | The same. Both are diamond, with the same hardness, sparkle, and fire. Only specialized equipment can tell them apart. | |
| Price | Priced by rarity, so it costs more for the same size and grade. | Usually far less for the same size and grade, so a budget reaches a larger or finer stone. |
| Value over time | Holds value better, with an established resale market. | Prices have fallen as production has grown, and resale value is limited. |
| Grading report | Our natural diamonds are typically graded by GIA. | Our lab-grown diamonds typically come with an IGI report. |
| Choose it if | Rarity, and a stone formed by nature, matter to you. | You want the largest, finest diamond your budget allows. |
The Four Cs aren’t equal. Here’s how we’d weigh them, whichever kind of diamond you choose.
Cut
Decides how much it sparkles
It’s the grade we’d stretch for first. A well-cut diamond can outshine a larger, poorly cut one.
Color
Near-colorless looks white
In yellow or rose gold, a slightly warmer grade can look just as white, for less.
Clarity
Eye-clean is what counts
Many diamonds with tiny inclusions look perfectly clean to the eye and cost noticeably less.
Carat
Prices step up at round numbers
A 0.90 ct diamond can look almost the same as a 1.00 ct and cost meaningfully less.

Three practical details that decide how a ring looks on day one and how it wears for decades.
| Metal | Color | How it wears | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naturally white, so it never needs plating, and it keeps a white diamond looking bright. | Dense and durable. Develops a soft satin patina that can be polished back to a high shine. | The most secure metal for holding a center diamond, which is why many of our settings are platinum. | |
| Yellow, white, or rose, with the richest color. 75% pure gold. | Softer than 14K, so it shows fine scratches a little sooner. | White gold is rhodium plated for brightness and re-plated every so often. We do it on site. | |
| Yellow, white, or rose, a shade softer in color than 18K. 58.5% gold. | Harder and more scratch-resistant than 18K, and usually lower in price. | A practical choice for hands-on work and active lives, and a popular choice for lab-grown rings. |
How high the diamond sits changes the ring’s profile, how much it catches, and whether a straight wedding band can slide beneath it. Shown from the side.
Low
Sits close to the finger and catches less. A wedding band may need a gentle curve to sit flush.
Medium
A balance of presence and practicality that suits most hands and most bands.
High, or cathedral
Lifts the diamond for more light and lets a straight band slide beneath. A little more exposed to knocks.
You don’t need an exact ring size to start. Borrow a ring they already wear on that finger and we’ll measure it, or we’ll help you choose a close estimate. Washington Diamond customers receive complimentary resizing within six months of purchase.
About Ring ResizingYour diamond comes with its grading report. Ask about an insurance appraisal when you buy, and bring the ring back over the years for cleaning, inspection, and any restoration, all done by our master jewelers on site.
